This very scarce pocket map has two separate maps attached to opposite inside covers. The map on the left is untitled but illustrates the southern 2/3 of Manhattan, the New Jersey shoreline and part of Brooklyn, (13.3 x 26"). On the right the larger (24 x 26") map carries the title given. It covers the northern 1/3 of Manhattan and the Bronx. Both maps are very beautifully colored including light blue in the waters. Legend indicates Wards (shown with yellow borders), trolley lines, elevated R.R. Stations, Steam Railroads, Subways (Rapid Transit), meadow and swamp, and more. Hand applied red and blue ink are used to indicate "The New York City Interborough Railway Company System as Shown When Completed" and "The Union Railway Co. System" with the legend also added in ink above the title. The notations and lines are so neat it appears this was done by the publisher, but it is possible a previous owner painstakingly applied this information. Either way it makes for an interesting and early historical document on the inter-city rail system. Both maps are surrounded by a unique and decorative border and blank versos. Folds into purple paper covers (4" x 7.3") with gilt title. By E. Belecher Hyde, 97 Liberty St, Brooklyn, Telephone 2760 Main. No record found on this scarce issue.
