"[Lot of 7 - Boston]",

This is a nice lot of very detailed pocket maps of Boston covering the period 1883 to circa 1930. The development and changes are vividly evident in the collection.

1) New Map of Boston Giving All Points of Interest; with Every Railway & Steamboat Terminus, Prominent Hotels, Theatres & Public Buildings. Geo. Walker & Co., 1883, Tilly Hayes, (17 x 18.5") b/w, folds into red leather, gold embossed covers, (3.7 x 5.2"). Inside cover has advertisement for the United States Hotel, the "Largest Hotel in Boston" and is featured on the map in a bold icon. Two spots on map, else fine. Covers with just a little rubbing, gilt is fine. (B+)
2) Map of Boston Showing Location of The Lenox, Geo. Walker & Co., 1897, (13.3 x 15"), printed color, folds into wrappers promoting The Lenox hotel with a photograph, (3.6 x 8.3"). On the map the Lenox Hotel is shown as a bold red overprinted block. Details include all ferries, red overprinting used to delineate street car routes, parks, universities, baseball grounds, and much more. On verso is a map extending into the surrounding towns and identifying railroads in red. The map is fine less one a small fold intersection split and some soiling on front cover. (B+)
3) Boston, Rand McNally, 1903, (18.5 x 26"), with insets, "Business Portion of Boston" and "Environs of Boston", printed color. Blank verso. Folds into paper wrappers, "New Handy Map of Boston", (2.5 x 5.8") with advertisements on inside pages. The map is near fine with just a hint of toning on a fold, cover with a little smudge on front. (B+)
4) Road Map of the Boston District Showing the Metropolitan Park System., Geo. Walker Lith. & Pub. Co., 1908, (36.3 x 26.5"), printed color. This fine map of Boston is dissected into 24 sections and linen backed. It extends west to include South Framingham, north to show all of Beverly. Marblehead, Hull and all islands in Boston Bay are located. Self-folds into 4.5 x 9" with paper label "Road Map of the Boston District All the Roads and Points of Interest." Map is near fine, paper label with a little toning. (A)
5) Indexed Map of Boston, Walker Lith. & Pub. Co., c. 1915, (19 x 27.5"), printed color. Beautifully colored with fully colored water, map extends to include Pleasure Bay, Governors Islands, Commercial Port and more. Blank verso. Folds into paper covers, (4 x 7.5") "Latest Map and Index of Boston City" with 12-page index. Inside cover lists pocket road maps and bird's-eye views available and on the rear cover is a list of the 37 "Automobile Maps" available. Near fine, printed on thick paper with the typical attendant small flaws at folds. Covers with slight soiling. (A)
6) Map of the City of Boston, Sampson & Murdock, 1926, (29.3 x 34.5"),b/w, with patented "fingerpoint" locator keyed to index on verso. This is a large and highly detailed map from a rarely seen publisher. Folds into paper covers (4.5 x 7.5") "Fingerpoint Map of Boston The clearest map ever made of the city..." The original small label for H.A. Shepard & Co. Stationers is attached at bottom of cover. Map is near fine, covers with a little sunning to spine and original owner's name in ink above title. (A)

Color and line delineate surface, subway, and elevated railways, and the E. Boston tunnel. Blank verso. Folds into paper wrappers, "Walker's Vest Pocket Map of Boston", (3.3 x 5.5"). Map is fine, covers near fine with just a hint of sunning to spine. (A+)
