This rare promotional railroad map was issued by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad to attract passengers to the San Juan mining district of Colorado. This map was apparently issued separately, but was made to accompany the San Juan Guide "which will be mailed free, on application to T.J. Anderson, G.P.A., Topeka, Kas." The map shows the line running between Kansas City and Atchison to Pueblo where it connects with the Denver and Rio Grande Railway. Spurs connect to Leavenworth, Wichita with several smaller spur lines filling in much of eastern Kansas. The Denver & Rio Grande travels south to El Moro and to Ft. Garland near the Sangre de Christo Pass, and north to Denver and beyond. At the time the mountainous areas of Colorado were filled with toll roads, many identified here including ones to the San Juan mining region of Colorado. Colorado counties are named. Map identifies the "Mining Country" in bold print, locates Mineral City, Silverton, Pagosa Springs, Lake City, Georgetown, Taos, Cimarron, Boulder, and more. Printed by Woodward, Tiernan & Hale, "Map Engravers", St. Louis.
