1) by Samuel Augustus Mitchell, 1879, Philadelphia (13.5 x 11"). This attractive mid-nineteenth century plan of the nation's capital distinguishes the political districts by number and color. Other details include the names of streets, monuments, important buildings, railroads, major roads, rivers and Mitchell's distinctive grapevine border. Plan of Baltimore on verso.

2) by Joseph Hutchins Colton, 1855, New York (15.7 x 12.7"). This fine plan of the city is surrounded with three large engraved vignettes of The Capitol, Washington Monument, and Smithsonian Institute. All major streets and buildings are named. Colton's distinctive scroll border completes the composition.
