This is an early, scarce woodcut map of North Africa showing the region of Libya and Tunisia including a portion of Sardinia and Sicily as well as a small group of mythical islands scattered along the coast. The illustrations on the verso have been credited to Hans Holbein and show an interesting illustration of natives with decorated lip disks. Titled in banner text at top, differentiating it from the otherwise identical 1535 edition. This was published in Strassburg with text by Bilibald Pirckheymer. Latin text on verso.

References: Mickwitz & Miekkavaara ( Nordenskiold) #208-12 .

Condition: B+

A dark impression on a sheet with tissue repairs in the generous margins, not affecting the map. There is some expertly repaired worm track on the centerfold with a few lines of facsimile on the island group.
