"[Lot of 2 - Yellowstone Park]", U.S. Government

The first map is "Yellowstone National Park and Forest Reserve from Maps by the U.S. Geological Survey," by J. Bien, circa 1900 (19.3 x 17.8"). This finely engraved topographical map shows all of Yellowstone Park plus the region to the east up to Bighorn County, in today's Park County. It has good detail of topography with contour intervals at 100 feet intervals, watershed and numerous features, all at a scale of 1 inch = 4 miles. The Upper, Shoshone, Gibbon, and Heart Lake Geyser Basins, Mud Geysers, Mammoth Hot Springs and much more are named. Old Faithful Hotel is located.

The second map is "Map of Tourist Routes, Yellowstone National Park," circa 1900 (13.4 x 17.5"). This rarely seen map was specifically designed for the tourist. It details all the geyser basins and other sites of interest, all roads, watershed and topography, and more. The map extends below the park to show the Forest Reserve and part of Jackson Lake. The legend identifies the Belt Line & Approaches, Old Wagon Roads, and Bridle Trails. This map was produced for publication in an annual report by the Army, 1899. Sen.
