Charming guide book for the visitor to the historic battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The book is thoroughly illustrated with dozens of beautiful engravings showing scenes of the countryside. Originally bound into the back, and now separated, is a large (34.8 x 15.5") uncolored panoramic bird's-eye-view of the Gettysburg Battlefield. This lithographic view, drawn by Bachelder, and printed by the Endicott Co. of New York, bears the engraved signatures of several military officers and educators from Pennsylvania College. The highly detailed view pinpoints military positions and movements over the three days of battle, and features a plan of the Soldiers National Cemetery with a key to identify the sections of the cemetery by state. An engraved statement from G. Meade provides testimony to the accuracy of the view. A second section in the back of the book discusses travel to a variety of northern resorts, and is also heavily illustrated. The book is inscribed with the signature of the author, and a personal note to the original owner. A private library stamp is pasted down inside the front cover with the name Reuben A. Gerry and is assigned the number 36. 230 pages. 12mo. Hardbound in original red cloth with embossed title in black on front and gilt on spine. An uncolored, embossed title is on the back.

The view has some very faint offsetting in the blank margin at bottom, and the text pages have some light age toning. The covers and spine are slightly shelf worn, and the binding is tight and sound. A terrific example.
