An unusual, imaginary view of the domain of the Apalachee Indians, which were historically located in the Florida panhandle. This tribe extended from Apalachee Bay in the south to parts of southern Georgia in the north when they were first encountered by Pánfilo de Narváez in 1528. The view depicts a massive, European-style castle atop a craggy mountain, identified in the key as the Sun-Temple (Sonnen Tempel). The natives themselves are shown in front of a large, blooming flower in the foreground, and along the banks of a small river. They are attired elaborately with crowns and long capes.
