"Casaniae Regnum cum Adiacentibus Provinciis et Parte Fluvii Volgae", Delisle, Joseph Nicholas

An uncommon map from Joseph Nicholas Delisle's famous atlas of Russia, the first atlas of Russia to be published. The map is centered on Kazan, located at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka rivers. The atlas was published in both German and Russian; this is from the German edition. The map is filled with detailed, pictorial topography and many placenames. An elegantly designed cartouche enhances the map in the upper left. Joseph Nicholas Delisle, younger brother of Guillaume, founded the Academy of Sciences at St. Petersburg and worked in Russia from 1726-47.
