This four volume set is the first annotated edition of George Vancouver's journal. Volume I includes a facsimile of a large folding map titled A Chart Shewing Part of the Coast of N.W. America…. The map folds into a pocket inside the back cover and includes three insets: A Chart of the Sandwich Islands, Part of the Gallapagos Isles. and . Vancouver's tracks are shown on a small world map bound into this volume between pages 54 and 55. A well executed 294 page introduction by the Editor, W. Kaye Lamb includes a reprint of a letter from Capt. Vancouver's brother, John, to the King in which he seeks to preserve his late brother's good name and reputation as a respected Captain and explorer. Each of the volumes in this set are illustrated with facsimiles of letters, engravings, portraits and more. 12mo. Complete set with 1752 pages total. Hardbound in original blue cloth with gilt vignette on each cover and gilt titles on each spine.
