This is Professional Paper 56 and 57 which is an interesting and informative investigation of part of Wyoming and Montana. The immediate incentive for the work was the need for more extensive and accurate information regarding the coalfields of the Western United States. It is profusely illustrated with attractive black and white photographs of fossilized animals and plants, large foldout profiles and five foldout maps including a colorful Area Geology of a Portion of Southwestern Wyoming (18 x 37") which includes Evanston; Geological Map of the Marysville Mining District, Montana (14 x 18"); and three other similar . Several additional, smaller maps are printed within the text. Complete with 178pp, 4to. Hardbound in original sheepskin with gilt titling over red and black bands.

Condition: A

Contents very good with some age toning mostly along edges. Covers have a couple scuffmarks, and front board is split along the hinge, but still attached. Spine is a bit scuffed, but sound, as is the binding. Rear cover has a large abrasion.
