An interesting pair of maps detailing Jerusalem from the 18th century.

1) An uncommon plan of Jerusalem from Maynard's Translation of the Works of Josephus . The map shows Solomon's Temple, the City of David, Herod's House, and Pilates House among other points of Biblical significance. The scale at bottom translates sacred cubits to ancient and modern stadias as well as the Italian half-league. This anonymous map is circa 1790, and it is hand colored. (16.5 x 13.5")
2) Plan Nouveau de l'Ancienne Jerusalem Selon Auteur is a simple bird's-eye view of the ancient city of Jerusalem showing its divisions with the Temple of Solomon and the royal palace and gardens prominently depicted. The map is oriented with west at top. Published by Augustin Calmet, circa 1722. Black and white engraving ( 17.1 x 12").
