"Spanish Dominions in North America Northern Part", Pinkerton, John

A large and richly engraved map of the Southwest along with a portion of Mexico, based on Humboldt's mapping of the area. The map features an early mention of Texas, located within the Intendency of S Louis, including a note on the Pres. de Bejar, Capitol of the Province of Texas. The Mississippi River is well-delineated up to about St. Louis, with a number of named of towns, settlements, and native villages. An oddly shaped New Mexico surrounds Santa Fe, Acoma, Taos, and Alberquerque. The Gila River is shown falsely emptying into the Gulf of California, and the Pres. de Tubson (Tucson) is shown just above the mission of San Xavier del Bac. The California coast is shown from San Francisco south to Baja, with a number of places noted, including Santa Barbara and San Diego. An erroneous Sr. de S. Buenaventura is shown flowing from the Rockies into what seems to be Salt Lake.
