An interesting sheet depicting the European possessions throughout the Americas. The map is surrounded by French text describing the history of colonization and geography of the region. Hand coloring identifies the colonial holdings of Portugal, England, France and Spain. A table provides information on 20 states and territories of the United States. Vancouver's discoveries are noted in the Pacific Northwest. The United States is shown with its border ending in the area of Kansas. The Pacific Northwest and western Canada are marked as unknown. The exploratory routes of Columbus, Picarre and Cortez are shown via bold colored lines. In South America, a note locates a famous Jesuit mission in the center of the continent. Size given includes text panels. A seldom seen issue.
