Unusual map is derived directly from Sebastian Munster's 16th century woodcut map of the same title. The style is consistent with the Ptolemaic maps, complete with rope-like mountains, tent encampments, and even foxes in the forest. It was published in a book on the history of commerce. A note in the box at right mentions that a route around Lapland to Russia known by the English in the year 887, was by 1540 forgotten and unknown.
