This early edition is one of most decorative maps of Durham county. This map is filled with Speed's dramatic embellishments including a large royal crest, a plan of the city of Durham, an elaborate compass rose, and a vignette scene depicting the Battle of Nevil's Cross, between the English & Scots. English text on verso.

Light soil along centerfold, else very good with a sharp impression, strong paper and good original margins. Couple of professional repairs on centerfold. Remnants of hinge tape on verso.
