One sheet of Coronelli's large, two-sheet map of South America titled America Meridionale. It shows the western portion of the continent and a portion of Central America. The map is superbly engraved with a large number of placenames noted, as well as figures of natives, Europeans and some animals not indigenous to South America -- including elephants and giraffes. The land of Tierra del Fuego is left undefined, and a note to the left of it recounts the expedition of Hernano Galego through the Strait of Magellan in 1576-8. A spectacular cartouche surrounds the scale of miles.

A velvety impression on a strong sheet with margins trimmed, but still ample. The centerfold has been reinforced on the verso, and a short tear just touching the neatline has been repaired.
