This large folio atlas includes the beautifully engraved "American Atlas" frontispiece with original tissue guard. With the additional, double- page Civil War maps "Vicinity of Richmond" and the more desirable example of the "New Military Map of the United States" which shows all states and territories, rather than the seven military departments. The Oregon, Washington & Idaho map includes the nearly created Idaho Territory in a huge square configuration that extends to Canada and east to well beyond the Rocky Mountains to about the 108° longitude. The southwest map is absent. Hardbound in green cloth with leather spine and corners, embossed and gilt on spine and titling on cover. Marbled endpapers, engraved frontispiece, title page, List of Maps, text and maps.
