"County Map of Texas", Mitchell, Samuel Augustus

Attractive Texas map has a large inset of "Galveston Bay and Vicinity." West Texas is made up of Young Territory, Bexar Territory, El Paso and Presidio Counties, and clearly shows the Llano Estacado or Staked Plain with a notation about the region being "destitute of both wood and water." Trails and roads shown and limited railroads extend only into Austin. Numerous dashed lines indicate proposed railroads. With a most decorative floral border. Judging from the beautiful color and strong border engraving, this is an early edition, likely 1860-62. Greer county in Indian Territory is not shown. A very nice example of this map.
