"Konigsberg", Werner, Friedrich Bernhard

Extremely rare, separately issued panoramic view of the formerly Prussian town of Konigsberg, now known as Kalingrad, showing the walled town with a key below to 36 numbered locations. The view shows a close foreground representing a nearby hill, with travelers and local folks in the mid-ground making their way towards town past a windmill and a nearby gallows with bodies hanging upon it. The view is topped with flanking armorial shields and a banner title.

Friedrich Bernhard Werner (1690-1776) was born in either Silesia or Richenau. He specialized in panoramic views of towns, and he traveled around Europe making sketches for various Augsburg publishers. He began to work for a group of publishers known as the Wolf Heirs, which included portions of a firm started by Jeremias Wolff (1663-1724) and included his son-in-law J. B. Probst and Johann Georg Hertel (1700-1775)

The image is bright and crisp with a couple of extraneous creases. The map has been professionally cleaned and backed with an appropriate archival tissue to reinforce and repair some short, marginal tears in the generous margins.
