This is a great chart of Manila Bay from Valentyn's encyclopedic illustrated account of the Dutch trading Empire in Asia. The map shows the city of Manila, the fortress Cabitta and several missions. The map is centered on a bold compass rose and embellished with several sailing ships. Valentyn was an important Dutch historian, who traveled to the East Indies twice. He was granted access to the secret archives of the Dutch East India Company in preparation for his account of the Dutch voyages to the Indies.
