Early, pictorial map of Sri Lanka with north oriented to the left by an especially elaborate compass rose. The map is exquisitely engraved with great detail of mountains, forests, villages, kingdoms, mines, stupas and spice plantations. It is embellished with three strapwork title cartouches, a sailing ship, and animals in the interior (including a large elephant). Latin text on verso.

Spectacular old color. A couple of tiny chips and one small centerfold separation, all in blank margin well away from map.
