This bold map of Cyprus was drawn directly by Ortelius from a written account by the French naturalist and traveler, Pierre Belon (1553). It is embellished with three sailing ships, a sea monster and three elaborate strapwork cartouches, one of which encloses an inset map of the Greek island of Lemnos. Engraved by Jan van Deutecum. French text on verso. Second state, published in 1598.

Fine impression with slight toning along centerfold. Small tear in upper blank margin, just touching neatline, with some ink markings in right blank margin.
