This graphic map is from one of the most important early sea atlases. It covers the coast of England from Plymouth to Portland and is centered on a fabulous 32-point compass rose. It is further embellished with sailing ships, a sea monster, and large intricate cartouches. The coastline is shown with farms and livestock, and coastal perspectives are included at top. Waghenaer's charts are renowned for their fine engraving by the best craftsmen of the period including Theodore de Bry and the Doetecum brothers. This map was engraved by Joannes Doetecum. A fine dark impression with some soil and stains in blank margins. Bottom fold separation with an old repair, not affecting map. Remnants of framer's hinges on verso.
