"Message from the President of the United States … relating to the condition of Texas, &c. June 24, 1836", U.S. Government

This document, signed in type by Andrew Jackson and John Forsyth, transmitted the Secretary of State's report that includes a copy of the Texas Declaration of Independence, its Constitution, and Houston’s report on the Battle of San Jacinto. This is the first official publication of these documents, preceded in the United States only by a pamphlet issued by Gales and Seaton one month earlier. It includes the transmittal letter by Robert Hamilton and Geo. C. Childress, special agents with plenary powers granted by Texas' Secretary of State, which states that "It is the wish and the object of the Government we represent to enter as early as possible into the most friendly relations with the United States of America." Disbound pamphlet, 24pp, housed in modern archival paper folding sleeve. A foundation document in Texas history.
