This large, linen backed sea chart covers the area from New London, Connecticut and Fisher's Island to Stonington, Watch Hill Point and Point Judith, Rhode Island. The cities of New London, Groton, Newport, Stonington, and Westport are shown as block plans. The strongly engraved chart shows the eastern end of Gardiner's Island and Montauk Point on Long Island. Block Island is well shown on the chart and its harbor is detailed in a large inset chart. There is excellent detail of the entrances to Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. The Sakonnet River and Sakonnet Point, Cuttyhunk, Nashawena, and Pasque Islands, No Man's Land, Gray Head and much more are named. The legend locates 10 different type of buoys via a little hand coloring, prevailing currents, light houses, anchorages, rocks, shoals, type of bottom, and more navigational data. Dotted lines on the chart give sailors the distance and sailing directions between ports and numerous buoy, and it is filled with hundreds of soundings. On verso is the original paper label with title, Eldridge's lithographed signature and a price of $1.50. A scarcely offered chart published in Boston and designed for use with Eldridge's Tide Book.
