"Globi Coelestis in Tabulas Planas Redacti Pars I", Doppelmayr/Homann

A fine copper engraved celestial chart that is centered on the north equatorial pole up to 45° North declination, drawn on a gnomic projection. Filled with constellations including Persius, Cassiopea, Cepheus, Draco, and Ursa Major, commonly called the Big Dipper. This beautiful sky chart also depicts the paths of the comets of 1618 and 1683 with the dates and names of observers. Stars of magnitude 1 to 6 are indicated by icons of decreasing size. Panels of Latin text at sides lists approximately 400 stars organized by their constellation, and giving latitude and longitude for each. Dated 1730, but published circa 1742.

Lovely impression and color. Professionally backed with heavy paper to support a few lower marginal tears that extend into border. 1-1/2" tear in center near fold extends from below Cepheus' foot. Close trimmed at sides.
