A wonderful piece of map ephemera describing the new map by "Thomas Hutchins, Esq. Late Captain and Engineer in the British Army, and now Geographer General to the United States of America." This single sheet features a full column advertisement for new maps just received "and to be sold at Mrs. Holt's Printing-Office" a few maps "of the interior parts of North America including the Lands intended for the NEW-STATES … together with a topographical description of Virginia." The long piece (12.5") includes a summary of the accompanying book and provides a fascinating history of the map and it's sponsorship. Hutchins' map was the best of the west at the time. The advertisement suggests buying the map now because the western lands were about to be opened for sale. A remarkable map-related item published June 2, 1785.
