This large pocket Spanish American War map folds into paper covers with embossed and chromolithographed title "Mapa de la Isla de Cuba published by J.L. Smith, 27 South Sixth St., Philadelphia." The map features full hand coloring, which is unusual for this late publication. With three inset maps, including one of Havana with the location of the U.S.S. Maine Blow-up stamped on the map in red ink. Text describes the island, its people and trade with the U. S. All place names are in Spanish. The legend locates railroads, cities and villages. Yellow circles surround seventeen lighthouses and apparently give their range. Red overprinted dots locate the forts and facilities held by Spain. Smaller hemispheres below the map describe the loss of territory by Spain in 100 years. The overprinting and date indicate a very early issue of the map in response to the War. On back of cover is a full list of pocket maps available and price. A seldom seen issue.
