A remarkable collection that consists of bound editions of the Illustrated London News (ILN) and Frank Leslie Illustrated Newspaper (FL), plus thousands of loose wood engravings (from the same publications) covering subjects from around the world. The collection, from a retired dealer's stock, includes 11 ILN volumes and 33 Leslie volumes with tens of thousands of saleable engravings in these volumes. Plus the loose engravings which are full and double-page sheets and number approximately 25,000. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a collection of nineteenth century wood engravings at just pennies per print. We recommend viewing the collection as the lot is not subject to return due to the weight and shipping costs. Please call to arrange for a preview and to get an estimated shipping cost.

The loose engravings are organized by subject with images from the United States, Canada, England, Panama, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Arctic, etc, etc. -- basically the entire world. Other subjects include sports, the occult, castles, animals, Civil War, Boor War, Crimean War, Wall Street, Shakespeare, Horses, ships, sailing, gambling, trains and more. We are basing the number of images at 20,000 to 25,000 on a paper thickness of .005" with a stack measuring approximately 120".

The volumes are here divided into two groups, namely those complete or mostly complete, and those with more than a few engravings removed. Nearly all have covers missing or detached, spine gone, etc. and should be considered a collection of engravings. That said, the vast majority of original engravings are present in each volume. The following volumes are complete or mostly complete. Those volumes without a number are missing the volume title page.
