An excellent little map depicting the five Great Lakes updated from Bellin's first important map of the region in 1744. Lakes Erie, Ontario and Huron have been more accurately defined. However, several large islands still remain in Lake Superior, including the entirely incorrect Isle Philippeaux. The Michigan peninsula is still misshapen with the large mountain range down its middle. The map is filled with Indian villages and tribal territory, forts, missions, and some trails and portages. The ornate rococo title cartouche features the French crown.
