Very detailed chart showing the region between Ochakiv and Kherson along the Dnipro (Dnieper) River and describing the Battle of Liman. The Russian fleet, led by Admiral John Paul Jones, the Father of the American Navy, defeated a Turkish fleet, killing or taking captive about 4500 Turks and destroying 15 vessels. Jones lost only one frigate and 18 men. After the American Revolution Jones moved to Paris where Thomas Jefferson, then Ambassador to France, recommended him for service with the Russia Navy. He was commissioned as Rear Admiral by the Empress Catherine II and served under Prince Potemkin in the Black Sea campaign. A rarely seen chart with an interesting American connection.
