Written by John Carne with illustrations by William H. Bartlett and published by Fisher, Son & Co. The author traveled extensively through the Holy Land as well as in Constantinople, Greece, the Levant and Egypt. This is one of the few works of the period to include what is present-day Lebanon. This work formed the first part of Fisher's series Turkish Empire Illustrated. The engravings by Bartlett are the first of his Levantine studies to appear. Vol. 1 (of 3), 80 pp., 37 steel engravings. Original binding in three-quarter red morocco over brown embossed cloth with gilt title on spine. Sold as a collection of plates.
