Complete and scarce atlas with stone engraved maps and lithographed views. Includes approximately 137 plates made up of 106 maps (6 double-page) and 31 views (1 double-page). The well rendered bird's-eye views include towns, buildings, homes, important residences, outdoor activities, farming, etc. The maps in all cases are precisely engraved and beautifully colored. Includes a great railroad map of the United States, plus a double hemisphere of the world. Frontispiece, title page, Preface, Table of Contents, maps, History of Wisconsin. Folio, 322 pp. Hardbound in embossed cloth with leather spine and corners. Cover with fancy embossed and gilt title with the Seal of Wisconsin. Nice bookplate of the Historical Society of Montana with a deaccession slip laid in. Considered scarce. Rumsey indicates that few copies were sold and its production resulted in the financial ruin and early death of Snyder. A lovely example of a rarely seen historical atlas.
