Superb plan of the Beemster Polder, the largest of the Dutch polders at the time it was diked and drained in 1612. This was one of the great triumphs of hydraulic engineering, the completion of which is commemorated now at a museum housed in a pumping station at one end of the polder. The plan is beautifully engraved and embellished with a ribbon style title cartouche and a large compass rose.
