Pair of very nice maps covering the Caribbean. The first map (13.5 x 7"), anonymous, circa 1770, is a strongly engraved and printed map covering the region from the Gulf of Mexico to northern South America. West Florida extends to the Mississippi River and the peninsula is cut by a long north to south river with a series of large islands making up the southern part. There is terrific detail throughout the Caribbean, Yucatan and Central America. The second map (9.5 x 8.6"), by Robert Wilkinson, circa 1790, includes the United States coastline to just north of Charleston and names a few coastal towns and features. Louisiana and West Florida are not part of the United States and East Florida takes on its modern peninsula appearance.
