Classic scene of the springs after William Henry Jackson's notable photograph. Jackson, along with Thomas Moran, were part of Ferdinand Hayden's famous survey of Yellowstone in 1871, the most productive, definitive and elaborate of all Yellowstone expeditions. The expedition gathered hundreds of specimens in addition to producing a wealth of notes, photographs and artistic sketches, and confirmed the wonders of Yellowstone - up to that time largely unverified. A lovely engraving that accurately depicts Jackson's sense of composition and his remarkable skill at capturing the environmental lighting that have made his photographs stand the test of time.
