A splendid sea chart of the Southeast Asia illustrating the Dutch sphere of influence in the region. The map is based Pieter Goos' chart of 1666. It covers the region from the eastern coast of India to Japan and extends to include the known northern and western coastlines of Australia based on early Dutch discoveries. Japan is shown on the Blaeu-Martini model. It is orientated with east at the top of the sheet. The superb title cartouche incorporates a compendium of symbols for the exotic east.
