A stunning map of Sicily and Sardinia extending to include the southern tip of Italy, Malta, and a bit of the coast of Tunisia. Inset at bottom are plans of Messina and Catania, important fortified ports in Sicily. The map is dominated by a huge, allegorical title cartouche representing the importance of the region in Mediterranean trade and military dominance. Among the figures included in the cartouche are Mars, Neptune, Mercury, and the female personifications of Renown and Abundance. This is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular eighteenth century maps of Sicily.
