Edited by Justin Winsor, Librarian of Harvard University. Eight volumes (bound in 16) consisting of critical essays by a variety of authors. They cover American history in depth to the adoption of the Constitution and briefly to about 1850. The volumes are profusely illustrated with maps, views, and portraits. Each volume is indexed separately, with the final volume containing a general index.
