This is one of the few maps included in the Civitates Orbis Terrarum covering cities outside of Europe; featuring cities important to European trade with Asia. The folio sheet contains four plans on the sheet. The largest top view provides a panoramic view of the important Portuguese port of Calcutta, India. At bottom the three smaller plans are Ormus, the main market of the Persian Gulf; Canonor, situated on the coast of Malabar; and St. George, a gold mine in Guinea. Each is beautifully rendered and features sailing ships, native boats, scenes of ship building, fishing, and working Asian elephants.
