"Our National Capital, Viewed from the South",

A distorted but detailed and informative bird's-eye view of conditions in the central part of Washington after a number of new buildings had been added to the scene. Probably the best depiction of the railroad tracks that then crossed what became the Mall. Across from the railroad station is the massive building housing the Central Market. Prominent in the foreground are the two old buildings of The Smithsonian Institution and the old Department of Agriculture building. Twenty-five references are keyed at bottom. Drawn by Theodore R.
