Paul Egede was the son of the Lutheran missionary Hans Poulson Egede, often called the Apostle of Greenland. Paul continued his father's missionary work in Greenland until he was forced to return to Denmark due to poor health. There he became an instructor to missionaries, translated the New Testament for use by the Eskimo, and wrote this history of the Greenland Missions, one of the few sources for Greenland history during this period. The map improves greatly on his father's map of 1741 and shows the locations of settlements and churches. Printed on a bluish toned paper, popular in France at the end of the 18th century.
