Fine small map with California as an Island on the second Sanson model with the island narrowing in the center. The map is covered with place names and early explorations are depicted, and colored, in the Pacific. Large (uncolored) title cartouche surrounded by Native Americans and birds takes nearly the entire upper left quarter, conveniently obscuring the northwest coast. Tobias Lotter engraved the map and his strong engraving style is evident.
