A scarce Dutch Bible map attributed by Shirley to either Cornelis Danckerts or Jacob Savry. The map itself features California as an island but with the retention of the westward stretching coastline of Nova Albion. New Zealand and Tasmania make very early appearances without any place names. The surrounding scenes are nearly identical to those on Visscher's world map of 1658 and depict the abduction of Persephone, Zeus being carried across the heavens in an eagle-drawn chariot, Poseidon commanding his entourage, and Demete receiving the fruits of the Earth. These decorative elements had previously been attributed to Visscher/Berchem, but this map gives rise to the possibility that Berchem copied his design from this earlier map. Dutch text on verso.

References: Shirley #372(A).
