These copperplate engravings were published in William Maitland's History and Survey of London, 1756. They are very detailed maps of the streets, lanes, alleys and courts in the ancient city of London. They are richly embellished with architectural profiles of major churches or important buildings, the arms of the mayor and aldermen, elaborate title cartouches and compass roses.

Wonderful set of twelve engraved views of the famous hospitals of London as they appeared two and a half centuries ago. Each is a finely engraved elevation and/or bird's-eye perspective. All approximately 9 x 15" except the Royal Hospital at Greenwich, which is 19.7 x 14". Includes: A perspective View of the Royal Hospital at Greenwich; A View of the Foundling Hospital; Bethlehem Hospital; Christ's Hospital; Guy's Hospital; St. George's Hospital; St. Thomas's Hospital; The Charter-House Hospital; The City of London Lying-in Hospital for Married Women At Shaftsbury House in Aldersgate Street; The College of Physicians in Warwick Lane, The London Hospital in Whitechapel Road, St. John the Baptist in the Savoy (3 views on 1 leaf); Royal Hospital at Chelsea (2 views); St. Bartholomew's Hospital (elevations and a plan).

Overall very good with light even toning. A few with some marginal flaws. Royal Hospital with scattered foxing.
