Manuscript map in brown ink of Ward's Island, in New York evidently showing a subdivision of seventy-seven lots. Titled Sketch of Barn Island on verso. Island bordered by Little Hell Gate, Hell Gate and Harlaem and East Rivers. Ward Island is now a part of Manhattan. After the American Revolution it was called Great Barn Island, owned by Jasper and Bartholomew Ward and used for farmland. Bartholomew Ward built the first known bridge to the island in 1807. That bridge is not shown on the map. Ward sold the island to the city in 1855.
