Detailed German map of the North Pole at the beginning of the rush to explore and map it. The dates of various expeditions from the 1648 hunting party of Deschnew, Vitus Bering's 1728 and 1741 explorations, Cook's voyage of 1778, and Mackenzie in 1789. There are also lesser-known explorers noted such as Clerke, Wrangel, Kellet, Rodgers, Long, Collinson, MacClure, Rae and Nares. Unusual notations of the extents of glaciers, as well as amazing detail of topography and towns. Inset maps of Novaja Selmja, Spitzberg, South and West Greenland. On verso: Karte der Sudpolarregion.
