Pair of fine steel engraved views. First depicts the important Texas seaport with the curved wharf in the foreground and the town in the background. A sinking ship is shown in the harbor and several people are gathered on the docks. Second is a quaint view of the small town with an American flag juxtaposed against the Spanish style architecture. A horse and cart cross a stone bridge over the San Antonio River in the foreground. These views are from one of the publications of city views issued by Meyer, a German publisher, first issued in parts and then in two volumes. Texas was of intense interest to Germans at this time and these publications contributed to the large German immigration into the west in the latter part of the nineteenth century.
