A superb sea chart with the coastline drawn at the top of the chart with north oriented to the left. The southwestern coastline is covered including the Cape of Good Hope. The large title cartouche features lions and leopards with a group of Europeans negotiating with Africans. At bottom right a large vignette shows Neptune and his consort in a chariot drawn by three horses. The chart is further embellished with two sea battles, two compass roses and rhumb lines. Title in both Latin and Dutch. First state of the plate that was purchased by Louis Renard in the early 1700's and later issues bear his imprint.

References: Norwich #254 (Renard version).
